Health at Every Size (HAES) Series:
Three 8-Week Groups to Support Your Path to Body and Self-Acceptance
Health at Every Size (HAES) emphasizes health enhancement, size and self-acceptance, the pleasure of eating well, the joy of movement and an end to weight bias. Using a combination of therapeutic approaches, including mindfulness and intuitive eating, HAES can strengthen an individual's commitment to their health and wellness by focusing on quality of life and self-care instead of dieting for cosmetic reasons.
Research has shown that lasting behavioral change and movement toward a natural weight range is much more likely to occur through 'self-care', rather than through the self-loathing, body dissatisfaction and fear that motivates people to diet. Be Nourished has designed three programs to help women let go of dieting and food/weight obsession to develop an attuned relationship with food, movement and self. These three groups can be taken individually or as a series.
Be part of a new conversation about health, one that nourishes and celebrates who we are and who we can become...regardless of body size, shape, or age. Read more
HAES Group I: Intuitive Eating: 8-week Group to Heal the Dieting MindAn intuitive eater is a person who "makes food choices without experiencing guilt or an ethical dilemma, honors hunger, respects fullness and enjoys the pleasure of eating". People who repeatedly diet often experience a "diet backlash"- increased rigidity regarding good and bad foods, restriction leading to increased binging, reduction in trust of self with food, feelings about not "deserving" food, social withdrawal, and shortened duration of dieting episodes. This eight-week series can help you heal from the side effects of dieting and move towards a more authentic relationship with food. We'll first work consciously to reject the dieting mentality and learn to make peace with food. Learning to honor hunger is a key component in the learning process. Intuitive eating teaches people to turn towards inner cues and discover what satisfaction and fullness feel like individually. The emphasis is on honoring health and taste buds together through gentle nutrition. Thursdays, 6 to 7:30pm
HAES Group II: Making Peace with Your Body: 8-week Group to Improve Body ImageOur body image is made up of an often confusing mix of internal and external perceptions. This group is designed to safely help participants explore these perceptions as well as patterns of food/weight obsession to better understand the resulting impact on emotional and physical health. This experience will include practical and personal tools for improving your relationship with your body. Participants will increase their sense of power to make holistically healthy choices regarding their personal wellness.
