Body Trust Network

A monthly workshop dedicated to supporting Health at Every Size, a truly sustainable model of health and wellness. Be Nourished is collaborating with Barbara Meyer (see bio below) to offer this series. Our plan is to create a community for women who want to be part of a new conversation about health, one that nourishes and celebrates who we are and who we can become...regardless of body size, shape or age.

The Tenets of Health at Every Size:
- Size and Self-Acceptance - respect and appreciation for the wonderful diversity of body shapes and sizes (including one's own!), rather than the pursuit of an idealized weight or shape.
- Health Enhancement - attention to emotional, physical, and spiritual well being, without focus on weight loss or achieving a specific "ideal weight".
- The Pleasure of Eating Well - eating based on internal cues of hunger, satiety, and appetite, and individual nutritional needs, rather than external food plans or diets.
- The Joy of Movement - encouraging all physical activities for the associated pleasure and health benefits, rather than following a specific routine of regimented exercise for the primary purpose of weight loss.
- An End to Weight Bias - recognition that body shape, size and/or weight are not evidence of any particular way of eating, level of physical activity, personality, psychological issue, or moral character; confirmation that there is beauty and worth in EVERY body.
About Barbara Meyer Ph.D.
An instructor of movement and facilitator of health behavior change for over 25 years, Barbara Meyer invites her students to challenge their assumptions about what it means to be healthy and inspires them to live more fully and lovingly in the bodies they have right now. After years of working in an industry which focuses on external measures of health and celebrates a particular "look of fitness", Barbara now embraces a philosophy of Health at Every Size. Her passion is to support her clients to identify their personal path to health, one that is guided by their heart and their own internal wisdom.
Barbara holds a Ph.D. in Health Education from the University of Texas at Austin where her dissertation focused on women's body image and exercise experience. She currently leads workshops and classes designed to facilitate compassionate self-care and reconnection to the body through attuned eating, mindful movement and body acceptance. For individuals with cancer, she teaches movement classes and workshops and speaks on the healing benefits of movement throughout the cancer journey. Barbara is a certfified Black Belt instructor of the Nia Technique and a Cancer Exercise Specialist.
