Dear Hilary Kinavey,
We have been busy enjoing all the nourishment this summer has to give, while also busily planning for the fall.
Our next Body Trust Network workshop is this Saturday, August 7, from 10am to 1pm. We will examine the question: "How did I learn to hate my body?" This is an opportunity to deeply explore the origins of your body image. Give yourself the gift of awareness regarding the roots of your relationship with your body. This awareness can be a guide in shaping a loving and accepting relationship with your whole being.
We have the next installment of our popular Intuitive Eating group starting September 23. More information about our upcoming events, as well as registration information can be found at www.benourished.org/events.
We love hearing from you! Let us know if you come across an article, book, or other resource that is helping you lead a more conscious, authentic life. And, if you haven't already, find us on facebook!
Warm regards,
Dana, HIlary and the staff at Be Nourished

Body Hatred - Are You in the Club?
Does this make my butt look big?
I'm trying not to eat any carbs.
I shouldn't be eating this.
Do you or your friends make comments like these? My husband recently overheard a discussion between two of his female coworkers who were looking at a fashion blog. One said "I wish I had legs like that," the other said "I'd love to have bigger breasts." Harmful conversations like these happen every day between women. It makes me wonder if women realize they are participating in a body hatred club?
How do we learn to hate our bodies? Who teaches us not to like ourselves? Some of you may say that it is the culture's obsession with thinness. Some will blame it on men. Others will chalk it up to the hoards of images that we are subjected to every day. No matter what the cause, we do have a choice. We don't have to buy the harmful fashion magazines that, ironically, are often made for women by women. We can choose not to watch shows like The Biggest Loser. We can encourage a friend to eat what she wants rather than ordering what she thinks she should have. We can challenge myths about dieting and weight. We can tell each other that we are already perfect. Imagine what women in this world would accomplish if we encouraged each other not to worry about the size of our hips or the cellulite on our butts.
What would happen if you decided that there was nothing wrong with your body?
